Why check blood sugar levels?
If you take certain medication, like insulin or sulphonylureas, checking your blood sugars is a vital part of living with diabetes. It can help you work out when you need to take more medication, when you need to eat something or for when you want to get up and move around more.
Routine checks can help you know when you might be starting to go too low (called a hypo) or too high (called a hyper). It’s a way of getting to know your body and how it works.
But importantly, it will help you stay healthy and prevent serious diabetes complications now and in the future. By complications, we mean serious problems in places like your feet and your eyes. This happens because too much sugar in the blood damages your blood vessels, making it harder for blood to flow around your body. This can lead to very serious problems like sight loss and needing an amputation.
At Temple Clinic we offer a Blood Glucose Testing Service for only £5. We can check your blood glucose in our private consultation room and follow up with advice to help you achieve a healthier lifestyle. If we find that your blood glucose is too high or too low then you will be referred to your doctor who can prescribe effective medicines.
What is high blood pressure?
Blood pressure is simply the pressure of the blood on the walls of your arteries. Your blood pressure changes throughout the day and fluctuates due to many events such as stress, physical exercise, anxiety and emotion.
Over 5 million people in England are unaware that they have high blood pressure.
Many people are unaware that their blood pressure is raised because they do not experience any signs or symptoms. That’s why it’s important to have your blood pressure checked regularly to ensure you are not at risk.
Persistent high blood pressure can cause damage to your blood vessels which can contribute to severe long term health risks such as a stroke, heart disease and damage to the eyes and kidneys.
Who is at risk?
The good news is that high blood pressure can be reduced by making simple lifestyle changes such as:
Learn to relax and take some time out from the stress and strains of daily life
At Temple Clinic we offer a Blood Pressure Measuring Service for only £3. We can check your
blood pressure in our private consultation room and follow up with advice to help you achieve a healthier lifestyle. If we find that your blood pressure is persistently high then you will be referred to your doctor who can prescribe effective medicines that can significantly decrease your blood pressure.

A Medicines Use Review (MUR) is a private consultation with one of our pharmacists regarding your medication. It is a FREE of charge service that is designed to make sure that you are getting the best use from your medicines. We have a private consultation room in which you can sit down and have a chat about the medicines that you are taking, what they do and any problems you are experiencing or questions that you may have about them.
At the end of the review:
If everything is okay with your medicines, nothing else will need to happen.
If the pharmacist recommends any changes in the way you take your medicines, you will be issued with an Action Plan. A copy of the Action Plan will go to your doctor and be kept with your medical notes.
If the pharmacist recommends a change to your prescription, they will notify your doctor who then may ask you to book an appointment to discuss the matter further. No changes will however be made against your will.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require any more information on the Medicines Use Review service.
